The Party Chief will possess competency in the following areas in order to perform his/her role in a safe, productive, and effective manner. The Party Chief is responsible for all layout activities and ensures safe, accurate work. Has a good understanding of SQP goals and collaborates with project leadership to identify improvement ideas. Contributes to effective project management through daily observations and communication. Interfaces daily with the client and project management to resolve tolerance conflicts and field constructability issues.
Contributes to safety on the project by perpetuating the IIF culture.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the Installation of Onsite Layout: Responsible for accurately maintaining all physical site dimensions and controls. Responsible for accurate layout of building location, structures, and dimensions throughout the project. Establishes procedures and coordinates with the client to define primary survey points and transfer building control on the site. Manages secondary control and communicates procedures to individual layout crews. Ensures implementation of procedures to adequately provide layout methods and check/re-check. Calculates and computes technical information to be used by the Instrument Man such as defining points needed in a data collector. Calculates and monitors concrete hold quantities on a daily basis.
Provides Layout which Adheres to Quality Control Requirements: Reviews construction documents for accuracy, deviations, and conflicts and writes clarification requests accordingly. Collaborates with superintendent, foremen and other trades to resolve constructability conflicts. Interfaces with Formwork Engineering department to provide layout for formwork shop drawings. Reviews field notes and documentation generated by survey or layout crews. Reviews and understands construction drawings and identifies discrepancies. Responsible for communication of changes and maintenance of technical drawings, as-builts, clarification logs, etc.. Knows and applies general construction tolerances in the application of work including the determination of the most stringent tolerance and its use.
Directs and Oversees Staff
Ensures a Safe Work Environment: Sets example by following safety guidelines including but not limited to wearing PPE on jobs, staying aware of surroundings, etc.. Attends and participates in Tool Box Talks and provides input for Safety Task Analysis. Complies with proper safety procedures.
Participates in required Training/Certifications
Physical Demands: Requires ability to maneuver in and out of job site trailers and various stages of job site terrains. Frequently required to stand and use hands to handle or feel. Regularly required to sit, talk, and listen. Must have the ability to exert physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment: Work is a combination of office and field environments involving various types of conditions encountered on the construction site. Work involves exposure to outside weather conditions.
High school diploma or equivalent and 6 years’ related experience
Minimum of 2 years’ as an Instrument Man II
Computer Skills: Working knowledge of CAD and surveying software. Proficient in Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel. Ability to understand, customize and modify spreadsheets.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Have a good background in geometry and trigonometry. Knowledge of industry tolerances
Working knowledge in the use of the coordinate system.
