Baker Concrete Construction, Inc. Laborer General Foreman in Washington, District Of Columbia

The Labor General Foreman is primarily responsible for directing but may carrying out logistics, equipment and material handling and assisting with installation of work in coordination with other site supervisors.

Duties and Responsibilities

Directs and Assists with General Labor Duties: Supply Chain Logistics: Tracks deliveries, addresses issues with the delivery of materials, orders delivery and pick-up of dumpsters, determines location of hydration and sanitation stations, properly designates the location and storage of flammable liquids and assists in determining where materials and equipment are placed in the lay-down area. Equipment/Materials: Determines sequencing of the loading and unloading of trucks. Ensures sign-in & sign-out procedures are followed. Assists in inspection of fall protection equipment. Oversees maintenance and repair of equipment. Verifies that those who are signaling, flagging, and rigging are properly certified. Installation of Work: Defines areas that need to be cleaned or addressed with housekeeping and assigns crew to perform work. Determines whether confined space attendant(s) and “fire watch” co-workers are needed and ensures that they are certified.

Directs and Oversees Staff: Supervises, trains, evaluates, and develops direct reports to ensure maximum returns on investment. Addresses complaints appropriately. Provides guidance, direction, coaching, and support to direct reports to maximize individual and overall department performance. Responsible for holding timely performance appraisals and progress reviews. Assists direct reports in developing sort and long-term goals that align with department and Company mission and strategy. Ensures direct reports receive appropriate training that aligns with career development plans. Training may be remedial, ‘maintenance’, or geared to promotion. Takes appropriate action to develop direct reports including, but not limited to, preparing and monitoring career development plans, promotions, demotions, lateral moves, corrective action, and progressive discipline. Recommends that direct reports receive timely and appropriate compensation. Collaborates with HR to ensure compliance with all employment laws, and related Company policies; may be responsible for conducting training or coordinating workshops related to such compliance.

Job Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum six years’ of related experience and/or training

  • Ability to communicate in English

  • Ability to read, understand, and complete job related documents and forms

  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, vendors, subcontractors, etc.

  • Know the abbreviated and common construction terms for the equipment and materials used

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, and proportions to practical situations

  • Capable of leading a group of co-workers on a specific assignment

  • Ability to read and comprehend documents such as blueprints and construction drawings, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to deal with problems involving specific variables n standardized situations.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished by written, oral or diagram form

  • Must have the ability to exert heavy physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to kneel, stoop, crouch, balance, climb or crawl

  • Ability to signal, rig and hoist to move materials, equipment and vehicles safely

  • Ability to work at heights
