Baker Concrete Construction, Inc., one of the nation's largest concrete contractors is searching for a Rodman. The Rodman provides the back and muscle for the installation of layout on a project. The primary duty is to assist the Instrument Man with the use of all survey equipment such as story poles, levels, transits and lasers. Must understand the importance of being accurate and precise. Maintains working relationship with foremen and crews and understands the different types of equipment used by the trades.

Duties and Responsibilities

Provides Assistance in Layout of the Work: Sets-up, cleans and maintains surveying equipment and supplies. Orders supplies as needed. Stores equipment to prevent damage/theft. Ensures area where control is being installed is clean and acceptable. Participates in the layout of work by holding the end of the tape, level rod, prism pole, plumb bob or other similar tools. Drives stakes, hubs and grade nails. Builds batter-boards and ensures layout are properly identified and protected. Aligns and plumbs all types of forms. Assists in the setting of anchor bolts and imbeds.

Assists in Ensuring Quality Control Requirements are Achieved: Verifies layout and ensure no misalignments or inaccuracies by coming off of a different control point/line. Assists in checking accuracy of surveying equipment through pegging, double-centering or other methods. Performs work with persistence for perfection (close doesn't count).

Working Environment: Work is a combination of office and field environments involving various types of conditions encountered on the construction site. Work involves exposure to outside weather conditions.

Job Requirements:

Specific qualification for the Rodman include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with some construction experience or combination

  • Willingness to work with other and be part of a team.

  • Ability to carry out instruction furnished in written, oral, or diagram form (English language).

  • Knowledge of layout terms and abbreviations.

  • Requires ability to maneuver in and out of job site trailers and various stages of the job site terrains.

  • Must have the ability to exert physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 20 pounds.
