Baker Concrete Construction, Inc. Formwork Engineering Manager in Monroe, Ohio

Baker Concrete Construction, Inc., one of the nation's largest concrete contractors is searching for a Formwork Engineering Manager. The Formwork Engineering Manager provides total oversight for the design and development of drawings and the selection of formwork material to support all concrete structures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manages Materials and Drawing Production: Participates in transition meetings to determine production schedule for shop. To optimize usage, collaborates with various shop personnel to effectively stage forming materials for fabrication and shipment. Monitors shop production to ensure it is keeping pace with the field progress on all projects; prioritizes work based on individual project deadlines. Prioritizes the drawing production based on critical project schedules.

  • Oversees:

  • Production of formwork shop drawings based on the chosen formwork system

  • Production of pour break drawings

  • Production of preliminary crane layout drawings

  • Production of Repetitive drawings for typical formwork layout

  • File naming and maintenance of project drawing files

  • Plotting and assembly of drawings per standards set by the Engineering Department

  • Comparing and checking production drawings to the construction documents

  • Identifies and resolves safety issues on the drawings

  • Communicates with the field on drawing conflicts and issues related to formwork and brings resolution

  • Determines critical framing sections are shown on the drawings

  • Reviews and critiques vendor supplied drawings

Designs Work: Provides Engineering input for proper form selection.

  • Reviews the designs and calculations of Junior Formwork Engineers and Formwork Engineers, including:

  • Member sizing and proper spacing

  • Sizing of shoring and forming

  • Load capacities for crane lifts

  • Proper spacing of framing layouts

  • Lifting and rigging equipment

  • Temporary support for existing structures

  • Collaborates with Senior Formwork Engineers on the following:

  • Designing, calculating and drawing the supporting work on a project

  • Appointing the Engineer responsible for stamping the documents

  • Identifying and resolving any unique design issues on the project

Designs final crane placement including foundation and load designs

Inspects Installation of Formwork: Visits jobsite to ensure materials are installed per formwork drawings and resolves any conflicts or issues found. Monitors project schedule through communication with the field to determine submittal and formwork delivery dates. Participates in the transition meeting to help determine the correct forming system is used and the proper quantities defined. Performs pre-pour inspections at site.

Oversees Staff:

  • Supervises, trains, evaluates, and develops direct reports to ensure maximum return on investment. Ensures support managers within area of responsibility also supervise, train, evaluate and develop their direct reports.

  • Addresses complaints appropriately.

  • Provides guidance, direction, coaching, and support to direct reports to maximize individual and overall department performance. Ensures support managers within area of responsibility also provide guidance, direction, etc. to their direct reports.

  • Responsible for holding timely performance appraisals and progress reviews.

  • Assists direct reports and staff in developing short and long-term goals that align with department and Company mission and strategy.

  • Ensures direct reports and staff receive appropriate training that aligns with career development plans.Training may be remedial, “maintenance”, or geared to promotion.

  • Takes appropriate action to develop direct reports including, but not limited to, preparing and monitoring career development plans, promotions, demotions, lateral moves, corrective action, and progressive discipline.Ensures support managers also take appropriate action with their staffs.

  • Conducts department staff meetings and participates in developing initiatives, goals, objectives, systems, policies, and procedures.

  • Ensures that staff receive timely and appropriate compensation

  • Collaborates with HR to ensure compliance with employment laws, labor laws, and related Company policies; may be responsible for conducting training or coordinating workshops related to such compliance

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Civil or Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology and 8 to 10 years related experience and/or training;

  • Licensed Professional Engineer related to Formwork Design

  • Ability to perform engineering analysis; such as calculate loads, pressures, shear, moment and deflection

  • Ability to evaluate strengths and weaknesses of fellow co-workers and mesh them together to create a successful project team.

  • Must have the ability to exert physical effort, handling average weight objects up to 20 pounds
